5th CD tie-breaker on campus?

After voting today, Britt and I went to the University of Minnesota campus to meet a friend for lunch. While I was unable to participate in any midnight madness lit drops, it looks like campus was plastered with Keith Ellison literature.

There were also some signs and chalkings for Becky Lourey.

The U campus is a tantalizing prize for any campaign. While turnout is usually low, even a small percentage could tip the scales in a close race. Campus served as a tie-breaker in the Minneapolis Ward 2 City Council race in 2005. Considering the neck-and-neck race in the 5th, campus votes could be a deciding factor.

Turnout was 34 votes in MPLS 2-8 around noon today. Not much, but higher than past primaries at this time according to the election judges. Haven’t seen any returns from the on-campus precincts.

UPDATE: This lit was handed out on campus by Stand Up Now MN, a DFL youth-run campaign.

Great issue framing and the earlier that substantive issues for the November election are placed before young voters, the better.

Anecdotally the campus tipped the scales towards Gordan in 05, but when you look at the numbers, the margin was larger than just the campus precincts, I believe. RT was going around saying that on election night, but when I looked at the numbers it didn’d add up. But point taken. I’d love to be proven wrong.

yes, Ellsion’s folks are everywhere, and the campus is helping out from what I can tell too. people are everywhere, things feel pretty good right now!

    glad you’re back!

that wasn’t me typing but my amazing gf.

as 4 campus #’s in 05 I remember looking at the returns and being convinced that cam would not have won w/o campus support

turnout will be very low on campus in the primary due to the 20 day rule but it could be a significant number if the split is less than 500 votes.

That’s why we need IRV and to get rid of the primary.

    ditto 4 irv

the split in 2005 was 141 votes. Campus was instrumental in putting Cam over the top. In a few hrs we will see if there is a repeat.

I’m not surprised. Dems usually take classes like “western civilization has to go” and get extra credit for promoting anti-american candidates. Conservatives actually major in engineering, business, computer science, you know, something useful.
